Enemies. We all seem to have them. We may not be able to give a great definition of who an enemy is, but we tend to know it if we have one. It can be tricky to know how to interact with and treat an enemy.

Thankfully, Jesus taught us what to do with enemies.

The words of Jesus can be challenging at times, but He says them for a reason.

What are we supposed to do with our enemies? Hint: It looks nothing like what anyone else teaches about enemies. In fact, it’s in such stark contrast it may be hard to believe. But when followed, we find the words of Jesus are true.

Obadiah is the shortest book of the Old Testament. 21 verses total. What we learn in the book of Obadiah is that family rivalry can last many, many years. In fact, even when your enemy is at your brothers door, it’s entirely possible to cheer while they destroy your brother.

That was the story for Edom. They were proud of their position. And when they saw Jerusalem get overthrown by the Babylonians in 586 BC they cheered on the enemy. It’s hard to imagine, but that’s exactly what happened. Not only did they cheer, but they joined in.

In this sermon we learn just how Pride and Unforgiveness lead us to destruction.

    Series: Simply Jesus

Hey Pilate. We noticed you wrote, “King of the Jews.” Could you rewrite that please? Could you please write, ‘He says he’s the King of the Jews?” Pilate looks at them and says, ‘I wrote what I wrote!” I’m not going to change what I wrote because it’s going to tickle your little ears!

People are going to try to get us to rewrite the story of Jesus. We need to look at them with confidence and say, “I said what I said!”
